The ELVIS Act (Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security), passed in Tennessee in 2024, protects a person's name, image and voice against unauthorised AI-generated use.
It was the first US legislation written specifically to protect musicians from having their voices used through artificial intelligence — covering audio deepfakes and voice cloning.
Several other states have since adopted or are considering similar provisions, while the federal NO FAKES Act aims to set one common standard.
