On 20 May 2026 a bipartisan group reintroduced the NO FAKES Act (Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe) as S.4591 in the Senate and H.R.8915 in the House, with sponsors including Senators Blackburn, Coons, Tillis and Klobuchar.
The bill would establish that individuals, or their designated rightsholders, hold the exclusive right to authorise use of their voice or likeness in digital replicas.
Why a studio should care. Voice modelling without consent is already a risk; if the bill passes it becomes a federal one. Written consent from the performer, stating the scope, stops being a courtesy and becomes a document.
