Spotify updated its policy in September 2025, adopting the DDEX standard for declaring AI use in credits. The platform says it does not penalise or down-rank music simply for being AI-assisted.
Uploads fall into three types: human-created, AI-assisted, and fully AI-generated, each with its own documentation requirements.
By March 2026 the DDEX rollout covered a wide set of distributors, including Amuse, Believe, CD Baby, DistroKid, Empire, FUGA and IDOL.
What to do. The declaration is a metadata field, not an email to the platform. If your distributor does not support it, your declaration never leaves your computer.
